A year in review: 2011-12

Christ Community Lutheran School of Watertown has created a new option for Home School families in our community.  This program, Home School Plus (HSP) is intended to offer families the option of enrolling home schooled children part time at CCLS for academic work in our Middle School Program (grades 5-8).

FAQ

 Who may enroll?

Families currently practicing home-schooling through their local public school are all eligible for HSP. The program is set up for students in grades 5-8 and enrollment will be based on the availability of space in the requested courses. Each student may only enroll for two courses per year. Christ Community Lutheran School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, or national and ethnic origin in its admission policies.

What does it cost?

Costs are based on current Community Tuition levels and are adjusted annually. For the 2011-2012 school year, each course will have a tuition level of $650.00 for the year. There is also a $50 non-refundable registration fee applied to each student. Tuition may be paid prior to July 1st or may be collected through TADS Tuition Inc. for an additional fee of $45.00.

Why would families consider this option?

Families may feel that while their children benefit from home schooling, they may also benefit from classroom instruction in specialized subject areas. Parents may also be seeking an atmosphere that is different from public education. Some home-school families may be looking for ways to make an easier transition from home-schooling to high school enrollment in the future. At Christ Community, our teachers are focused on great teaching, but every day they live our Mission Statement: Leading Children in Their Christian Faith Walk!

May enrolled HSP students participate in co-curricular activities and field trips?

HSP student may accompany the class for certain field trips, as long as the field trip is related to the course in which the student is enrolled. HSP students are also encouraged to participate in other before and after school activities (eg. Breakfast and Books and the Envirothon Program). Students may also play on CCLS athletic teams if there is space on the team for additional participants. Additional fees will be assessed for each program or activity.

Will HSP students receive a diploma at the end of 8th grade?

HSP students will not graduate with their class. If the student were to be enrolled as a full time student prior to the final semester of their 8th grade year, the student may be eligible for graduation if they meet our school’s criteria. Each situation would be reviewed individually on a case-by-case basis prior to full-time enrollment.

Are students able to take any offered courses that are available?

Students will be placed in appropriate grade level courses after consultation with the principal and classroom teacher. 8th grade students interested in Algebra will need to provide evidence of mastery of pre-algebra skills and will be required to take an entrance exam like all students at CCLS.

Does this change the family’s responsibility to coordinate their Home School planning with the local public school?

By law, home school students are the responsibility of the local public education agency located in the district in which the family resides. Home-school families must continue to coordinate their home schooling with that agency. Officials at Watertown-Mayer Public School District have expressed their support for Christ Community’s HSP program.

Is transportation available to and from school?

Parents would be responsible for transporting students to and from registered classes. In the event that the registered class took place at the beginning or end of the day, busing may be available through the Watertown-Mayer District for families who reside within the district.

On what day and at what time will courses occur each week?

Course schedules for middle school for 2008-2009 are not available at this time. All courses listed will be in operation next year. The times are tentatively set in June, but are subject to change until the beginning of the school year.
